Psychedelic Assisted Therapy

Previously I have shared posts on clinical trials abroad linked to the use of MDMA in conjunction with psychotherapy to treat PTSD.

This recent article outlines ongoing Irish research on the use of psilocybin, (the psychoactive ingredient in magic mushrooms) in conjunction with psychotherapy to help those with treatment resistant depression.

“It’s promising data,” says Dr John Kelly, a psychiatrist and clinical senior lecturer at Trinity College Dublin and Tallaght University Hospital and an investigator with the trial. “It’s going to form the basis for further, larger studies.”

Psychedelics in conjunction with psychotherapy is an area of continued research globally and could provide future treatment options for clients in distress.
