Shona Young
Psychotherapist, Art Therapist
I’m a qualified psychotherapist registered with the IACP, holding a BA in Integrative Counselling and Creative Art Psychotherapy, a BA in Psychology, and an MA in Forensic and Legal Psychology.
Over the years, I’ve worked in corporate environments, supported victims and perpetrators of violent crime, and worked with trauma, depression, suicide, anxiety, and more in a variety of capacities. These experiences have given me a unique and grounded understanding of how trauma and emotional challenges affect people in real and lasting ways.
I specialise in trauma (particularly trauma rooted in violence) and anxiety, and I hold additional training in suicide intervention and resilience in those exposed to trauma, disaster, and war. I work exclusively with adults, offering a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental therapeutic space. My approach is integrative, drawing from different therapeutic methods depending on what my clients need most.
A central part of my practice is the use of art therapy. I believe creativity has a unique ability to bypass the limitations of words and give shape to feelings, experiences, and parts of the self that might otherwise remain hidden. In our sessions, art is never about creating something “good”, it’s about the process. Colours, shapes, and images become another language for self-expression, one that can bring clarity, release, and even relief when words feel too heavy or too hard to find. Many of my clients find that weaving creativity into therapy allows them to understand themselves more deeply, reconnect with their emotions, and begin to heal in ways that feel both safe and empowering.
Non-judgment is the cornerstone of my practice. My role is to walk alongside you, never to dictate or analyse, but to create a space where you feel seen and supported. I’m also fluent in Irish and welcome clients who wish to explore therapy through their native language.
Whether you’re struggling with trauma, anxiety, or simply feeling stuck, I’m here to walk alongside you as you begin to make sense of what you’re carrying. If you’re ready to take that first step, I’d love to support you.
