Liz Clarke, MIACP, RGN
Psychotherapist
Liz Clarke is a qualified psychotherapist, having obtained a MSc in Psychotherapy from Dublin City University in 2023. She is fully accredited with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. She has worked for many years in healthcare, and this wealth of human experience complements her current practice as a psychotherapist.
Her counselling experience involves working with adult clients across all ages groups and backgrounds, who present with emotional distress related to a variety of emotional concerns. Relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, bereavement, grief, loss, disability, illness and work- related stress are among some of the areas she has supported clients with, helping them find a way of living that is less defined by these issues.
Liz sees every client as an unique person, and strives to ground her work with genuine respect, kindness and empathy. She considers the client to be the expert in their own lives, and listens deeply to each person, in order to reach an understanding of how they see themselves in the world. Her goal is to make a collaborative effort to identify what might be causing psychological distress for the client, and explore what they would like to change in order to reduce this distress.
Her counselling philosophy is rooted in the Rogerian humanistic model of person centred care. However, she practices through an integrative model, enabling her to draw on skills from a number of different psychotherapy approaches. This flexibility offers the client a neutral setting where they can set their own pace. For example, the work may be solution- focused or cognitive, contracting for perhaps six or eight sessions. Conversely, the work may move into a longer period, reflecting on the impact our early life has on how we live today, and the patterns of behaviour we have learned and currently use.
She engages in regular clinical supervision, to maintain her own integrity as a psychotherapist, and ensure best practice for the client. This is supported by working within clear ethical boundaries, and ongoing professional development and education.
Liz is available for individual in-person sessions (including evenings).
