Deeka Haji, MIACP

Psychotherapist

I hold a B.A. in Counselling Skills and Addiction Studies from the Irish College of Humanities & Applied Sciences (ICHAS) and a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Irish Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IICP). I am an accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP).

Growing up in Tallaght, Dublin, I developed a deep appreciation for multicultural experiences, which has significantly shaped my approach to therapy.  My background, combined with my fluency in English and Somali, allows me to provide culturally sensitive support to clients from diverse backgrounds.

Professional Experience

I work as a Counsellor at Dublin Simon Community’s Sure Steps Counselling Service, providing mental health support to individuals experiencing homelessness. My work with Dublin Simon Community involves offering one-to-one counselling sessions to clients referred through the service, as well as hosting drop-in clinics in hostels to ensure support is accessible and provided in a way that meets people’s needs.

Sure Steps is a trauma-informed, client-led service, and I take an integrative approach to therapy, tailoring my work to each individual’s needs.

My work focuses on making mental health care accessible to those who might otherwise face barriers to support. By offering a safe and confidential space, I help clients explore their experiences, develop coping strategies, and work towards stability in their own time and way.

Clinical Approach

I am committed to creating a safe, welcoming, collaborative and non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I believe that each individual has the innate capacity to overcome challenges and reach their full potential. My role as a therapist is to guide and support you through the therapeutic relationship, empowering you to resolve issues and foster personal growth.
