Lisa Benson MIACP is a fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and holds a BA (Hons) degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy which consisted of four years of training. She recently completed a two-year Master of Arts Degree in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with The Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS). Lisa also holds a master’s certificate in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MBCT).
Lisa is an Integrative Psychotherapist, her main psychotherapeutic approach is Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) while integrating other therapeutic modalities depending on the clients’ presenting issues and needs i.e., Humanistic, Person-centred, Existential, ACT, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Reality therapy/Choice Theory (RT/CT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
Lisa is our CBT specialist and has a particular clinical interest in supporting individuals affected by Chronic Pain, a common symptom associated with:
- Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS),
- Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ/TMG),
- medically unexplained symptoms (MUS) and long-term physical health condition (LTC).
She Is extremely passionate about her work and has broad experience with issues like Surgical Trauma, Terminal Illness, Workplace Bullying, Relationship Issues, Addiction, Suicide Ideation, Family Estrangement, Generalized Anxiety Disorder(GAD), Social Anxiety Disorder(SAD), Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder(OCD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Panic Disorder, Bi-Polar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Anger, Loss, Grief and Eating Disorders. When implementing CBT into the therapy sessions, Lisa introduces exercises/home learning, also gives handouts and CBT interventions/ techniques on the clients presenting issue. As the sessions progress the client’s “toolbox” fills up with self-care interventions/exercises for self-management should she/he relapse post therapy.
Her therapeutic approach is adapted around the individual needs of each client, where confidentiality, respect and trust are key to successful therapeutic outcomes. Lisa attends regular supervision, continuously educating herself by reading books on clients medical/ mental health diagnoses so she will have a clear understanding of the clients presenting issue, also identifying new approaches to meet the client’s needs. Lisa provides a safe and comfortable space for each client, which is non-judgmental, empathic, and supportive. Lisa is available for both short and long-term therapy in person and on zoom.
